Hahahaha, once again, as a contemporary author I am having a bit of a *crickets* moment when it comes to this post.

So, my story doesn't really have a main antagonist??? It's a man vs. self or man vs. nature struggle, although there are a few instances of man vs. man.

This post is going to be me deflecting half of these questions. ;P

1. Introduce the main antagonist of your book!

I don't have one! I do have a few side antagonists though!

2. What do you (the writer) have in common with the antagonist?  What do you not have in common?

One of the main antagonists, Austen, is a very insecure person, which is why he bullies Alex. Although, I am not a bully, I can relate to feeling lost.

3. What does your antagonist do when he/she is mad?  Do they have a soft spot?

One of Alex's bullies ends up feeling remorseful and apologizes to Alex.

There is another antagonist besides Alex's bullies, and the antagonist is a ghost of Josh's past life, but I can't say anything because *spoilers*

4. Who is your antagonist’s worst enemy?  What is their greatest fear?

I would say they are their own worst enemies because they are holding themselves back from happiness by hardening their hearts. Their greatest fear would be being weak or helpless, which is why they act like predators around others.

5. What is your antagonist’s weapon of choice?

Their fists or words (reminder: this is a contemporary book about high schoolers, so having a character with a pistol would make the story wayyy too dark).

6. How would your antagonist surprise your reader?

I guess just by how cold he (Austen) is, he lacks empathy, but sadly I've met a lot of teens like him so he isn't unrealistic.

7. What is one thing your villain would never do?

Own up to his weaknesses.

8. What lie does your antagonist believe about the MC?

That kindness makes Alex weak.

9. What is your favorite thing about your antagonist?

Nothing, I don't like or dislike him, he's just a character needed for Alex's arc.

10. If your antagonist was your MC, what would your book look like?

It would be an interesting book, but I don't know if I could make him likable, I could make readers pity him, but I'm not sure how such a harsh character would come off in a book with him as a main.

Tell me your thoughts!
Do you have an antagonist?
